Lessons from the Field: Making the Edge Tamper-Proof - Erik Nordmark, ZEDEDA

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

While security in the datacenter is relatively well understood, edge computing comes with a new, and entirely different, set of challenges. For instance, if devices are deployed in the field without a secure perimeter where it’s difficult to control physical access, how do we ensure that someone can’t just walk up to that device and update the BIOS? And when there are often many stops between when a device leaves the factory and arrives in the field, how do we ensure that the device you install hasn’t been tampered with along the way? This session will share lessons learned from organizations deploying edge projects today. Learn actionable best practices for common challenges such as avoiding firmware and software attacks in the field, ensuring security and environmental consistency with unsecured or flaky network connections, and for detecting and avoiding supply chain attacks, plus get tips on questions to ask hardware suppliers. Finally, learn how the Linux Foundation’s EVE-OS is built to mitigate the specific security risks associated with edge computing, and how to either get involved with Project EVE or how to leverage what EVE-OS does within your own environments.
